Reims, city of coronations
The jewel of the Marne, Reims displays in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral some of the most striking Gothic lines in France, where the kings were crowned. Next door, the Palace of Tau keeps treasures and coronation robes. Life gathers on Place Drouet-d’Erlon, a long avenue of terraces, perfect for a first drink. The quieter Saint-Remi Basilica offers a soothing setting for a walk together.
The Montagne de Reims as a couple
Modest in height but magical in landscape, the Montagne de Reims is in fact a wooded plateau planted with vines. You follow the Champagne tourist route from village to village: Verzy and its famous twisted beeches, which look like an enchanted forest, or Hautvillers, where Dom Pérignon is said to have refined the sparkling wine. Every stop promises a gourmet encounter worth drawing out.
A quieter Marne, gentle Champagne life
Beyond the bubbles, the Marne cherishes its markets, its small river ports and its calm forests. The banks of the Canal latéral lend themselves to a quiet cycle ride, far from the crowds. Wine villages often host friendly open-cellar days. On Lyad, members from the Marne share their favourite champagne houses and walks; it is up to you to find someone to raise a glass with.
